BPA Free. This is the label we all now look for when buying plastic containers and water bottles. More people are returning to glass as a means to avoid it, and for good reason. BPA (bisphenol-a) is linked to cancer, birth defects, infertility, and more. And microwaving plastic? A big no-no!
I did a BPA purge in my home as part of my path to reclaim a healthy endocrine system. I even gave away the coffee pot (to the husband's dismay) in favor of a french press. Yes, even the black plastic parts of your coffee contraption have BPA, so when brewing coffee, this chemical leaches into each cup you make. Fabulous.
I thought I was safe when I parted with plastics, but have recently learned that can linings also contain BPA. Buy any canned goods at the grocery store? You are getting an extra special bonus in each can. Double fabulous.
Today's short article is written by Kelley Herring, owner of Healing Gourmet and author of Your Plate, Your Fate. She talks a little more about BPA and a company that makes their can linings BPA free. I thought it important enough to share with you!
Eden Foods – Delicious, Organic & BPA-Free Too!
By Kelley Herring
Would you believe that almost ALL canned foods (including healthy organic ones) are packaged in containers contaminated with BPA? And that’s really bad news for your health.
BPA is an industrial chemical and potent endocrine disruptor found in plastics, as well as metal can and bag liners. And it’s been linked with breast and prostate cancer, insulin resistance and diabetes, Down’s syndrome and other birth defects, obesity, infertility, and polycystic ovarian syndrome.
But BPA is still legal… and being used in thousands of packaged food products everyday. A few companies have stepped up to the plate (or in this case, the can) and reached into their own pockets to protect you. Eden Foods is one of them.
Eden canned products are packed in steel cans coated with a baked on oleoresinous c-enamel lining that doesn’t contain bisphenol-a (BPA). These cans cost Eden 14% more to produce (an additional $300,000 more a year). This wonderful brand offers a line of products ranging from cannellini beans to soy sauce that you can enjoy -organic and contaminant free – for just a few cents more per serving.
There are 6 other companies that use BPA free cans! Click here to check them out.
